OUR COURSES: The need for competence

All types of preventive work need a qualified staff and competence is fundamental ability to obtain good results. It is extremely important in a new field of work like violent radicalization that workers should not lack relevant experience, Technical knowledge, and proficiency. Having the right competence enables a person to outline and carry out the tasks in ways effective both in achieving the goal, and in using available resources.

The groups involved in this kind of work need different kind of competence, shown in the table below as an example:

Our Courses: Category

1. A course for key personnel (prevent engagement officers, police). 12 hours.

Aim: To be able to use of our method in practical decision-making and enable them to carry out optimized actions.

2. A course for first line workers (teachers, social workers, child welfare officers, criminal care, refugee camp etc.). 4 to 8 hours.

Aim: To detect and diagnose signs of radicalization. To know what they could do themselves and when and by whom they need a helping hand or expertise advice. How to use our checklists of over 100 indicators for early identification of the radicalized person or youth.

3. A course for the investigative journalist.

Aim: To detect /diagnose signs, understand process/degree of radicalization and counter radicalization efforts by institutions and other actors. Know how to use this information in practical journalistic work.

4. A course and/or information material for politicians, parents and the public in general.

5. Various advanced courses and special courses tailor made for special events or groups with relevant prototypes.

It should be noted that despite the structural uniformity of the courses meant for first-liners, the content will be different according to needs of the groups involved.


Our Courses: Common features for all the courses


Step 1. A thorough discussion of the concepts symbolizing radicalization, violent radicalization, extremism and terrorism, and an introduction to the actual ideological foundations.

Step 2. A thorough explanation of our model of the of radicalizations process.

Step 3. An examination of the different indicators for radicalization and methods for discovering them.

Step 4. Case based training of using this technique in order to make decisions, whether one should stop, wait or refer the case in question.

Step 5. A survey of the next steps in putting indicators into action.


Additional steps for police and prevent engagement officers/SLT:


Step 6. How to analyze the information under consideration (analysis of the situation)

Step 7. How to choose the strategies on the background of the situation under consideration

Step 8. How to choose appropriate actions on the background of chosen strategy.

Step 9. Choose argument, form and the way to implement the chosen measures.

Step10. Case based training of steps 6-9.
